Our Therapy Fees at The Mental Health Clinic
We believe that access to quality mental health care should be clear, compassionate, and transparent. Below you’ll find our current counselling fees. We’ve designed our fee structure to be competitive with other Alberta clinics while honouring the expertise of our therapists and the value of the care you’ll receive.
Most extended health benefit plans cover sessions with Registered Clinical Social Workers (RCSWs), Registered Social Workers (RSWs), Counselling Therapists (CTs), and Canadian Certified Counsellors (CCCs) in Alberta. Please check your individual plan for details. We are happy to provide official receipts for reimbursement.
Consultations
No-Cost Consultation (20 minutes): Free
A free, no-obligation call or video meeting to help you decide if our clinic is the right fit for you. This consultation is your chance to ask questions, learn about our therapists, and get a sense of our approach. Please note that this is not a therapy session and cannot be billed to insurance.
Individual Therapy
Initial Intake (50 minutes): $170
Your first session is about setting the stage for your healing journey. Together, we’ll explore your history, current challenges, and goals for therapy. This session helps your therapist gain a deeper understanding of who you are and what support you need, ensuring your therapy is tailored specifically to you.
Initial Intake Extended (90 minutes): $260
Sometimes one hour isn’t enough to cover everything, especially when there is more than one person involved. This extended intake allows more space for individuals, couples and families to share their story, ask questions, and outline multiple areas of concern. It’s especially valuable if you’re dealing with complex challenges, trauma, or want to create a detailed plan for moving forward.
Individual Therapy (50 minutes): $170
A standard one-on-one counselling session focused on building insight, learning coping strategies, and working through challenges in a safe and supportive space. Each session is designed to help you make steady progress toward your goals, while giving you practical tools to use outside of therapy.
Individual Therapy Extended (90 minutes): $260
A longer session that provides more breathing room for deeper work. This format is ideal for conducting assessments, processing trauma , exploring multiple issues in one session, or giving yourself more space to reflect and reset. Extended sessions ensure you don’t feel rushed when working through meaningful and sometimes difficult topics.
Couples Therapy
Couples Therapy - Individual (50 minutes): $170
At the start of couples therapy, many partners benefit from meeting individually with the therapist. This session provides a safe space to share your perspective, voice concerns, and outline goals without your partner present. It helps the therapist understand each person’s story so joint sessions are more effective and balanced.
Couples Therapy - Standard (50 minutes, both partners): $188
This focused session is best for couples who have already built a foundation in therapy and are ready to continue working together. In this format, you and your partner will strengthen communication, practice conflict-resolution strategies, and build trust within a shorter but highly focused timeframe.
Couples Therapy - Extended (90 minutes, both partners): $260
Our most common format for couples. The extended time ensures both partners feel heard and supported, while allowing for in-depth exploration of relationship concerns. Whether you’re navigating conflict, healing after betrayal, or working to improve intimacy, the extended format provides the space needed for meaningful progress.
Teen Therapy
Teen Therapy (50 minutes): $170
Individual sessions help teens build resilience, learn coping strategies, and find their voice in navigating life’s challenges. Parents may be updated as appropriate, but the focus remains on empowering teens to feel supported, understood, and confident.
Teen Therapy - Extended (90 minutes with parent check-in): $260
Extended sessions give teens more space to work through concerns, while also offering parents time for updates and guidance. This balanced approach helps families stay connected to the therapeutic process and provides parents with tools to support their child at home.
Family Therapy
Extended Session (90 minutes): $278
Family therapy creates a supportive space where each member can share their perspective and feel heard. This extended session allows enough time for meaningful conversation, whether you’re managing conflict, navigating blended family challenges, or coping with transitions like grief or separation. Families leave with stronger communication skills and practical tools to use outside of therapy.
Therapy Check-In’s/ Follow-up Sessions
Therapy Follow-Up (30 minutes): $116
A shorter, focused session designed for established clients. These sessions are perfect for maintaining progress between regular appointments, reviewing coping tools, or addressing a specific concern that arises. Though shorter, these appointments are structured to maximize focus and ensure you leave with clarity and direction.
Life Coaching
Life Coaching (50 minutes): $98 + GST
A goal-focused session designed to help you gain clarity, build confidence, and create actionable steps toward personal or professional growth. Unlike therapy, coaching focuses on the present and future, giving you tools and accountability to move forward with purpose.

Frequently Asked Questions About Fee’s and Insurance
-
Yes. Our 20-minute consultation is a no-cost, no-obligation call or video meeting. It's a chance to ask questions, get a feel for your therapist, and decide if it's a good fit before committing to a session. Please note: the consultation is not a therapy session and cannot be submitted to insurance for reimbursement.
-
Payment is due at the time of each session by credit card. You'll receive an official receipt after each session that can be submitted to your insurance provider for reimbursement. We do not offer direct billing at this time, meaning payment is collected from you directly and you submit the receipt to your insurer yourself.

Many extended health benefit plans in Alberta cover counselling provided by regulated clinicians. Coverage depends on your specific plan, the designations your insurer recognises, and whether you have mental health benefits selected.
Our therapists hold designations recognised by major Alberta insurers, including Alberta Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife, Equitable Life, and Green Shield. Before booking, we recommend calling your insurer to confirm the following:
Does my plan include mental health or counselling benefits?
Which professional designations are covered (C.C.C., CT, RSW, RCSW, R.Psych.)?
What is my annual coverage limit and have I met my deductible?
Does my plan limit the number of sessions per year?
Taking five minutes to confirm this before your first session can save you from surprises at payment time.
-
It depends on your specific plan. Alberta Blue Cross reliably covers sessions with Registered Psychologists, Registered Provisional Psychologists, Registered Clinical Social Workers (RCSW), and Registered Social Workers (RSW). Coverage for other designations, including Canadian Certified Counsellors (C.C.C.) and Counselling Therapists (CT), varies significantly by policy and is not guaranteed.
Before booking, we recommend contacting Alberta Blue Cross directly to confirm which designations your plan covers and what your annual limit is. You can check basic eligibility through the Alberta Blue Cross member portal, though some group plans require a phone call to verify.
-
There are a few options worth exploring. Many clients utilize a Health Spending Account (HSA) to cover session fees with pre-tax dollars if your employer offers one. It is worth looking into to help offset costs of therapy.
Paying for sessions out of pocket is common as well. If you are self-paying, our counselling fees are GST-exempt so you do not have to worry about additional fees.
If fees are difficult to manage, you can also check whether you have an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through your employer, as these often provide a set number of fully covered sessions at no cost to you. Keep in mind that the EAP is useful for a very specific goal that can be addressed within just a few hours of sessions. This is not therapy nor is it long term so it will not be suitable to address all concerns.
-
We do not offer a sliding scale at this time. Our fees reflect the advanced training, clinical experience, and expertise our therapists bring to every session, and are intentionally priced below the recommended fee guidelines set by Alberta's regulatory bodies to make quality care more accessible.
If cost is a concern, we encourage you to check your extended health benefits or Health Spending Account (HSA), as many clients find their existing coverage offsets some or all of the session fee.
-
Our cancellation policy is standard practice. We ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed without notice, may be charged the full session fee.
This policy exists because your therapist reserves that time specifically for you, and late cancellations make it difficult for other clients to access care. We appreciate your understanding.
-
We do our best to accommodate urgent requests. Same-day availability depends on your therapist's schedule and cannot be guaranteed, but it is worth reaching out directly to check. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact the Alberta Mental Health Helpline at 1-877-303-2642, available 24 hours a day, or go to your nearest emergency department.
