Our Fees at The Mental Health Clinic
We believe that access to quality mental health care should be quick, easy, and transparent. Below you’ll find our current fees. We’ve designed our fee structure to be competitive with other Alberta clinics while honouring the expertise of our therapists and the value of care you’ll receive.
Most extended health benefit plans cover sessions with Registered Clinical Social Workers (RCSWs), Registered Social Workers (RSWs), Counselling Therapists (CTs), Canadian Certified Counsellors (CCCs) and Registered Psychologists (R.Psych) in Alberta. Please check your individual plan for details. We are happy to provide official receipts for reimbursement.

This focused session is best for couples who have already built a foundation in therapy and are ready to work together. You and your partner will have dedicated time to work through these concerns together with your therapist's guidance.Couples Therapy - Extended (90 minutes, both partners): $278

Why Our Fees Matter
Your session fee reflects more than the time spent in the appointment. It also supports:
Experienced clinicians: We believe experience matters. Our therapists have at least 10 years of experience providing mental health treatment, bringing established clinical knowledge, experience, and perspective to the work they do with clients.
Clinical work outside the session: Your care involves more than the time spent in the appointment. Clinicians spend additional time reviewing your care, completing clinical documentation, developing treatment plans, and coordinating care when needed.
Thoughtful, individualized care: We take the time to understand each client's concerns and develop treatment that is appropriate to their needs, rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.
Accessible private care: We aim to make private mental health care easier to access by offering timely appointments without the lengthy waitlists that can make finding appropriate support difficult.
Admin & Legal Fees Disclaimer: Requests for reports, letters, professional communication, or court involvement are billed separately at professional rates. Please contact our clinic for details.
Frequently Asked Questions About Fee’s and Insurance
-
Yes. Our 20-minute consultation is a no-cost, no-obligation call or video meeting. It's a chance to ask questions, get a feel for your therapist, and decide if it's a good fit before committing to a session. Please note: the consultation is not a therapy session and cannot be submitted to insurance for reimbursement.
-
Payment is due at the time of each session by credit card. You'll receive an official receipt after each session that can be submitted to your insurance provider for reimbursement. We do not offer direct billing at this time, meaning payment is collected from you directly and you submit the receipt to your insurer yourself.
-
Many extended health benefit plans in Alberta cover counselling provided by regulated clinicians. Coverage depends on your specific plan, the designations your insurer recognises, and whether you have mental health benefits selected.
Our therapists hold designations recognised by major Alberta insurers, including Alberta Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife, Equitable Life, and Green Shield. Before booking, we recommend calling your insurer to confirm the following:
Does my plan include mental health or counselling benefits?
Which professional designations are covered (C.C.C., CT, RSW, RCSW, R.Psych.)?
What is my annual coverage limit and have I met my deductible?
Does my plan limit the number of sessions per year?
Taking five minutes to confirm this before your first session can save you from surprises at payment time.
-
It depends on your specific plan. Alberta Blue Cross reliably covers sessions with Registered Psychologists, Registered Provisional Psychologists, Registered Clinical Social Workers (RCSW), and Registered Social Workers (RSW). Coverage for other designations, including Canadian Certified Counsellors (C.C.C.) and Counselling Therapists (CT), varies significantly by policy and is not guaranteed.
Before booking, we recommend contacting Alberta Blue Cross directly to confirm which designations your plan covers and what your annual limit is. You can check basic eligibility through the Alberta Blue Cross member portal, though some group plans require a phone call to verify.
-
There are a few options worth exploring. Many clients utilize a Health Spending Account (HSA) to cover session fees with pre-tax dollars if your employer offers one. It is worth looking into to help offset costs of therapy.
Paying for sessions out of pocket is common as well. If you are self-paying, our counselling fees are GST-exempt so you do not have to worry about additional fees.
If fees are difficult to manage, you can also check whether you have an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through your employer, as these often provide a set number of fully covered sessions at no cost to you. Keep in mind that the EAP is useful for a very specific goal that can be addressed within just a few hours of sessions. This is not therapy nor is it long term so it will not be suitable to address all concerns.
-
We do not offer a sliding scale at this time. Our fees reflect the advanced training, clinical experience, and expertise our therapists bring to every session, and are intentionally priced below the recommended fee guidelines set by Alberta's regulatory bodies to make quality care more accessible.
If cost is a concern, we encourage you to check your extended health benefits or Health Spending Account (HSA), as many clients find their existing coverage offsets some or all of the session fee.
-
Our cancellation policy is standard practice. We ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed without notice, may be charged the full session fee.
This policy exists because your therapist reserves that time specifically for you, and late cancellations make it difficult for other clients to access care. We appreciate your understanding.
-
We do our best to accommodate urgent requests. Same-day availability depends on your therapist's schedule and cannot be guaranteed, but it is worth reaching out directly to check. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact the Alberta Mental Health Helpline at 1-877-303-2642, available 24 hours a day, or go to your nearest emergency department.
