Trauma Counselling in Alberta
Trauma stays with you until something changes it. Online therapy for adults, couples, and families delivered by a registered Alberta counsellor with over 20 years of experience.
What You Are Carrying May Look Like This
Flashbacks or intrusive memories
Nightmares or disrupted sleep
A body that stays tense or hyper-alert
Emotional numbness or disconnection
Anger or irritability that feels out of proportion
Guilt or shame that will not lift
Avoidance of reminders of what happened
Difficulty feeling safe, even when nothing is wrong
These are not weaknesses. They are signs that your nervous system has not fully processed what happened.
Trauma counselling focuses on helping your system move out of survival mode and into stability.
Why These Symptoms Are Not Going Away On Their Own
Trauma is not simply a painful memory. It is an experience the brain could not fully process at the time, so it stored it in a fragmented state that keeps the nervous system behaving as if the threat is still present. That is why understanding what happened does not always change how you feel and respond. The insight is there. The relief is not.
Trauma counselling works directly with that stored experience. Not by making you relive it in detail, but by creating the conditions your nervous system needs to finally move through it and out of survival mode.

Why Work With Daniel for Trauma Therapy
Daniel is a Counselling Therapist (C.T.) and Canadian Certified Counsellor (C.C.C.) with more than 20 years of clinical counselling experience and over 30 years of pastoral care. That combination is rare and it matters for trauma work specifically.
He has worked extensively with:
Trauma survivors
Veterans and first responders
Survivors of abuse or violence
Individuals recovering from occupational trauma
Adults rebuilding after incarceration
People carrying long-standing developmental or childhood trauma
Daniel also serves as a clinical supervisor, collaborating with physicians and mental health professionals across Alberta. His work is grounded in structured, evidence-based trauma therapy.
Daniel also limits the number of trauma clients he accepts at one time to ensure every person receives focused, unhurried care.
Trauma therapy does not begin with reliving the hardest experiences.
Early sessions focus on understanding your history, identifying triggers and nervous system responses, mapping how trauma shows up in your body, and developing grounding and stabilisation strategies that create a foundation of safety before anything deeper is explored.
You remain in control of the pace at every stage. Nothing moves faster than you are ready for.
When appropriate, deeper trauma processing begins using approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, somatic-informed strategies, and Solution-Focused Therapy. Each treatment plan is individualised. If something feels overwhelming at any point, the pace slows immediately.

All sessions are confidential and conducted through secure platforms that meet Alberta professional standards and comply with PIPEDA privacy requirements.
What Many Clients Notice Over Time
Every person's experience is different and outcomes are discussed honestly during your consultation.
Many clients report fewer intrusive memories, improved sleep, reduced emotional reactivity, faster recovery after triggers, a greater sense of safety in daily life, and an increased ability to stay present in relationships and daily situations.
Progress does not mean forgetting what happened. It means it no longer controls your nervous system.
Practical Questions
Do I need a referral? No. You can book directly with Daniel today without a doctor's note or prior assessment.
Is this covered by insurance? Most Alberta extended health plans cover sessions with a Counselling Therapist and Canadian Certified Counsellor. Receipts are provided after every session for reimbursement.
What if talking about trauma feels overwhelming? The first sessions focus on stabilisation. You are not required to relive traumatic events. Therapy moves at your pace and slows immediately if something feels like too much.
Can spirituality be part of therapy? If that perspective is important to you it can be respectfully integrated into the work. If it is not relevant to you it plays no role.
How long will this take? Some clients notice meaningful shifts within several sessions. Others continue longer for deeper work. Realistic expectations are discussed honestly during your consultation.
Therapy is not a substitute for emergency services. If you are in crisis please contact 911 or your local emergency services immediately.
You Do Not Have to Keep Carrying This Alone
Trauma quietly organises your entire life. What you avoid. How you protect yourself. How much of yourself feels safe to show to the people around you.
A free 20-minute consultation with Daniel is a conversation, not a commitment. It is a chance to ask questions, get a sense of whether this feels right, and find out whether trauma counselling is the right next step for you. Nothing is decided in that call except whether you want to move forward.
